From the day I first started at Ellery Partners, I knew the experience was going to be a unique challenge that would allow myself to grow in a professional and educational manner. Prior to my first day, I was worried that I wouldn’t be as advanced in this field as I should be; however, I quickly noticed that both Orlando and Jalen are the best educators to assist me throughout this journey. Working directly with the two founders of Ellery, I have been able to advance my knowledge of search funds/PE faster than I ever would’ve thought. Orlando offers weekly informational sessions which assists us in the continuation of our education and helps us advance as analytical thinkers. I have learned that there is never a bad question to ask, and Orlando or Jalen are always ready to assist us if we need extra clarification on concepts.
Working at Ellery, I have been able to meet and collaborate with a divine group of other interns. Even though we all come from different backgrounds, attend different universities, and only meet via video conference, I am certain the relationships we have made will continue with us as we continue our professional careers.
My current project I have been given the opportunity to work on is a deep-dive within the homeowners association (HOA) industry. This project has been incredibly interesting, as I did not have a strong understanding of the industry prior to this experience. However, as I always say, you’re only hurting yourself if you never try something new. In this role, I have the responsibility of communicating and gathering the information of HOA managers, community homebuilders, and neighborhoods throughout many different regions across the country. I have had the pleasure of working on this project with another intern, where we have both advanced our industry research techniques substantially over the last four weeks.
Reflecting on the past month, I am amazed by how fast the time goes when you’re doing something you enjoy. Ellery Partners has allowed me to broaden my horizons of professional and educational opportunities further than any other internship I have done. I can’t wait to see what the next couple of months will look like, and I am excited to see how much I have grown when my time at Ellery has come to an end.
